The tool that tells you whether the cable is the problem. It splits into two halves — a main unit and a remote terminator — so you can plug one end into a wall socket upstairs and the other into the patch panel downstairs, and watch the eight pins light up in order or not at all.

It finds open circuits, shorts, and miswired pairs, and it reads both straight-through and crossover wiring, which is what you need when you have crimped the plugs yourself and one of them is wrong. Works on RJ45 network and RJ11 telephone cable. Runs on a single 9 V PP3 battery, which is not in the box.
